Which part of Bali suits my channel?

When is the best time to film in Bali, and what is Nyepi?

The dry season, roughly April to October, gives the most reliable light and calmer sea days. The wet season, roughly November to March, brings afternoon storms and greener landscapes, and more boat cancellations. Peak holiday weeks bring heavy traffic and busy viewpoints.

Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, marks the Saka new year. For 24 hours the island shuts down: no traffic, no flights in or out of the airport, lights kept low and guests stay inside their hotel. The date changes every year, usually in March, so we check it against your dates before planning.

How should I behave at temples?

• Wear a sarong and a sash at the waist, with shoulders covered. Many temples lend or rent them at the entrance.
• Do not climb shrines, walls or statues, and do not stand above priests or offerings.
• Step around the small daily offerings on pavements and steps.
• Traditionally, women who are menstruating are asked not to enter temple grounds. It is a matter of local custom; we raise it privately and respect your choice about which visits to join.
• When a ceremony is under way, some areas close to visitors. Film from where you are welcome and ask before photographing worshippers.
